Below is a travel guide for Heilongjiang Province, covering popular itineraries, must-visit attractions, local food, and important notes:
Best Time to Visit
Winter (mid-Dec – Feb): The golden season for ice and snow. Visit the Harbin Ice and Snow World, China Snow Town (Xuexiang), Yabuli Ski Resort, and try the "throwing hot water to make instant ice" trick in Mohe. Temperatures range from -20°C to -35°C.
Summer (Jun – Aug): A top summer retreat with average temperatures of 20°C–25°C, ideal for Yichun forests, Wudalianchi, and Zhalong Wetland.
Autumn (Sep – early Oct): The "Five-Flower Mountain (Wuhua Shan)" red foliage in Yichun and the Greater Khingan Range is at its peak—perfect for photography.

Accommodation Tips
Stay near Central Street / St. Sophia Cathedral for convenience (chain hotels ~NT400–800/night; 5-star ~NT1,000+).
Practical Notes
1. Winter Warmth (Most Important): Use the 3-layer clothing system — moisture-wicking base layer + fleece mid-layer + windproof/waterproof down parka; also wear thermal pants, slip-resistant snow boots, earflap hat, touchscreen gloves, and hand warmers. Attach warmers to phone/camera batteries to prevent shutdowns.
2. Ticketing & Booking: Buy Ice and Snow World tickets via the official WeChat account in advance (crowd control at peak times); check Zhalong's crane flight schedule; the Unit 731 Exhibition Hall requires advance reservation (closed Mondays).
3. Transport: High-speed rail connects Harbin ↔ Yabuli ↔ Mudanjiang ↔ Qiqihar ↔ Yichun. For Snow Town/Mohe, take the official Longjiang Bus or hire a licensed private car — avoid unlicensed rides.
4. Avoid Pitfalls: Accommodation prices surge in Snow Town & Mohe in peak season — review cancellation policies carefully. Northeast China portions are large — order wisely. Aurora sightings are extremely rare — don't count on it 100%.
5. Miscellaneous: Indoor-outdoor temperature difference can reach 50°C — remove your coat indoors to avoid sweating and catching a chill. Wear sunglasses to prevent snow blindness. Bring lip balm and rich moisturizer.
